In short, the college caters to the need of the people of North Hailakandi district as it fulfils the dream of Higher education of hundreds of down-trodden people of this locality. Mr Prafulla Kumar Mohanta the then Chief Minister of Assam laid the foundation of this college on 8th March 1996 with an aim of fulfilling the need of the students of economically and geographically backward minority and tea tribe community of this locality.
Mission: To mould students into rational thinkers by removing the superstition and dogmas, which are prevalent in the area. To prepare the students as a whole hearted competent person who are ready to face any situation of perilous life and to be a good citizen of our country.
Since its inception, the college has been empowering the society with knowledge skill and expertise. Giving quality education is the sole motive of this college .The college believes in Tennysonian dictum, to strive for the maximum development of their potential. To provide highest level of quality education to enhance human values as well as to prepare the students for the battle of survival by exploring their talent in an effective manner. Facility for higher education remained virtually limited as the existing college of the district had failed to cater the need to accommodate a large number of students and as a result many students found their door closed to their aspiration of getting higher education. The realisation of this fact and a deep understanding of the situation compelled Mr Sahidul Alom Chudhury and other social activist of this locality to establish a college for the students of North Hailakandi, subsequently A.L.Choudhury College was established in 1996 and started its maiden journey from a rented building with single Arts stream .With the generous help and donation from people of this area the present building was constructed within a short period of time and the college was shifted from its rented building to its present spacious building in the year 2000.
Within a short span of time commerce stream was introduced in the college along with the already enlisted Arts stream. A good number of committed teachers served the college with poor wages till Provincilisation of the College and tried their level best to impart quality education and value based education to the to the enthusiastic students of the locality. Every year many students are taking their desired degree and marks of achievement in various fields.
